Valay Dand (Ring Goal)

 Introduction

Valay dand game is a popular game played in two teams. It is a fun and engaging team game designed to promote physical activity, teamwork, and strategy. Here’s how to play:

Equipment Needed

  1. A small ring (valay) (can be made of rubber, plastic, or metal).
  2. A designated goal post or 6 feet wooden stick

Number of Players

Two teams with an equal number of players (usually 5–10 players per team).

Divide the play area into two halves for each team. Mark a goal post area on both the side of the play field, for the respective team. A player of each team stands in the goal area with a wooden pole, in which his team mates will place the ring.

Objective

The objective is to pass the ring between teammates and score a goal by placing the ring in the wooden pole which is held in the hand of the team mate.

Rules

  1. Start of the Game:

The game begins with a toss. The winning team starts with the ring.

  1. Passing the Ring:

The ring is passed between players using only their hands.

Players cannot move while holding the ring; they must pass it to a teammate or attempt a goal.

  1. Movement:

Players can move freely without the ring.

A player must stop running once they catch the ring and pass it from their stationary position.

  1. Defense:

The opposing team tries to intercept the ring during passes.

Physical contact, pushing, or holding opponents is not allowed.

  1. Scoring a Goal

To score, the ring must be placed or thrown into the goal post area. The player holding the pole cannot move outside the marked goal area.

A goal is valid only if the ring reaches the post through proper passing without fouls.

  1. Fouls

Running while holding the ring.

Physical contact or obstruction of opponents.

Holding the ring for too long (a time limit may be set, e.g., 5 seconds).

  1. Restarting the Game:

After a goal, the game restarts from the center with the non-scoring team.

Duration:

The game is typically played for a set time (e.g., 15 minutes) or until a predetermined score is achieved.

Winning:

The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins.

This game encourages agility, quick decision-making, and team coordination, making it a favorite in Shakha activities.
